FTA / APSA Keep The Spotlight on Capacity and Freight Rates

As announced in last week’s member update and covered in National 9 News, Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) have launched a mainstream media campaign to raise awareness about capacity constraints and significant increases in freight rates and surcharges imposed by foreign-owned containerized shipping lines.

We extend our gratitude to Ross Greenwood from Sky News for dedicating extensive airtime in last Thursday’s episode of ‘Business Now’ to examine the causes of sustained inflationary pressures. You can listen to the podcast of the episode here.

Addressing the Core Issues

Shipping lines claim that the increase in spot rates results from the current supply and demand imbalance, attributed to several global events, including:

  • Ongoing hostilities in the Red Sea
  • Congestion in Singapore
  • High demand to ship goods from China to the US before tariff increases

However, it is concerning to note that some shipping lines are reneging on Named Account (NAC) agreed rates and holding subsequent import consignments on a lien basis until payments are made.

Rest assured, Transitainer WA continues to work hard to provide our clients with the best rates and ensure your freight is moving to meet your requirements.
