Conclusion of the 2025–26 BMSB Risk Season

As of 1 May 2026, the 2025–26 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) risk season is officially over. While this marks the end of the 2025-26 seasonal measures, several important requirements remain in place for goods and vessels that moved during the risk window.

What this means for importers and industry partners

Goods shipped on board, or vessels departing from BMSB target risk countries on or after 1 May 2026, are no longer subject to BMSB seasonal measures. However, target high‑risk goods manufactured in or shipped from these countries between 1 September 2025 and 30 April 2026 will continue to require BMSB compliance—regardless of their arrival date into Australia.

Importers are reminded that biosecurity responsibility is year‑round. Ensuring consignments remain free from hitchhiker pests is essential to protecting Australia’s environment and supply chain.

Staying vigilant

Although the seasonal measures have concluded, the risk of hitchhiker pests remains. If you encounter anything unusual that may have entered with imported goods, report it to See. Secure. Report. on 1800 798 636 or via the online form.
