From Sunday, 14 December 2025, the long-anticipated West Gate Tunnel officially opens, introducing a revised tolling structure across key freight routes in Victoria. The Victorian Government and Transurban have confirmed that all commercial heavy vehicles will now be subject to updated toll charges, including travel via the West Gate Bridge and surrounding arterial roads.
As these changes directly affect port and metropolitan freight movements, we want to ensure our customers are fully informed about what this means for their cargo.
Mandatory Industry-Wide Changes from 1 January 2026
While the new tunnel is expected to improve traffic flow and long-term reliability, the toll changes are mandatory, industry-wide, and outside the control of carriers. As a result additional tolls will be applied effective from 1 January 2026.
Our Commitment to Transparency
While the infrastructure upgrades are expected to deliver long-term efficiency benefits, the immediate cost impact is real and unavoidable.
Transitainer WA and our transport partners will continue to closely monitor the impact of these changes.
We’re Here to Help
If you have any questions or would like to discuss how these changes may affect your specific freight movements, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Transitainer WA team. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership.
These tolls are set by Transurban, not by carriers, and are unavoidable for compliant heavy vehicle operations.
