As we approach the 2026-2027 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) season, Transitainer would like to remind importers and supply chain partners to start preparing now to avoid unexpected delays, treatment costs, and compliance issues. The upcoming BMSB risk season is expected to run from 1 September 2026 to 30 April 2027, with current advice indicating no significant changes to the core measures from previous seasons.
Why BMSB Matters
The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug is a serious biosecurity threat to Australia’s agriculture, horticulture and environment. During the northern hemisphere autumn and winter months, these pests can shelter in cargo, containers, vehicles, machinery and other goods destined for Australia.
Key Reminder for Shippers
Mandatory offshore treatment is expected to continue for target high-risk goods shipped as breakbulk cargo, including flat rack and open-top containers. Failure to meet treatment requirements can result in delays, additional costs, or export orders being issued by Australian authorities. Goods from emerging risk countries, together with airfreight consignments from the United States and China, will continue to be subject to random inspections throughout the season.
